Background: Sam is an easy going boy! Friendly everywhere he goes to both people as well as animals. He would be a great addition to any new family without any restrictions to behavior. He can be added to a family with children or other dogs of both genders. We are unsure of how he will be with cats, but that's because we don't have cats! Sam is a blue fawn Merle, smooth coat male. He is from our own breedings and he is a 3rd generation of SFC. Sam sired one litter for us and it was beautiful. We are opting to retire him from our breeding program because he isn't as aggressive with breeding as we need in a male. Additionally, he is related to too many of our girls. We are always trying to be selective with our breedings to create the healthiest puppies possible. Deciding to retire Sam was not an easy decision for us. He is a great boy, like I said. Keep in mind, he is coming from a breeding environment and does where a belly band in our home to prevent unwanted marking. You will need to purchase belly bands and reintroduce potty training to him again. We have had enough feedback over the years to learn from our other clients that retired males can be broken of unwanted marking, once they are removed from the environment causing them to mark (intact females). Sam is up to date on all immunizations, Rabies and heartwrom prevention. He has had previous dental cleaning and will have another one at the time of his neutering appointment. All of Sam's vet records are under his current name. He current enjoys Purina ProPlan kibble, but he can be switched over to a food of your choice with introduction. Sam is a fully health tested male. He has been genetically health tested through Embark Vet. Sam does carry one copy of a condition called IVDD- but this does not mean he has the condition. It was information to help us navigate breeding him, so we knew to breed him to a clear female. This has absolutely no bearing on his life or health. He has had his patellas and heart both certified with the orthopedic foundation for animals. He has had his Merle sine length evaluated with UC Davis and he has been cleared of Degenerative Myelopathy as well as Congenital Macrothrombocytopenia. Sam also has Russian import lines behind him, but he is 100% Chihuahua. He is from many generations of health tested dogs.  We require that you will keep in touch with us if you want to adopt him.  It generally takes 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn a new routine, and 3 months to start to feel at home. We do require that you submit a puppy application for consideration. This is not a first come first serve placement. The application fee is non-refundable. I will allow public meet in greets for local families.

I would prefer whomever tries to apply for him to come to Salem, and not be in a hurry. A lot of my Washington customers try to do an adoption and drive home in one day. This would work, but you need to be prepared to drive Sam back to me if the placement does not work out. A puppy application must already be submitted and pre-approved prior to the meet in greet.  All adult dogs have a 14 day money back guarantee if the dog does not work out for you in your home. The dog must be brought back to the original location of pick up by scheduled appointment, and a refund will be issued to you within 30 days, minus any fees you may have had during the initial adoption. We encourage all prospective adopters to really think this through and not take on a dog that may not work for you. We want his next home to be his forever home. To submit an application for Sam, please use our puppy application for consideration.

  • Please be aware that Sam is from a breeding home. He will not be fully potty trained in a new environment and will take patience and the ability to retrain to establish a new routine

  • Must be local or within driving distance of Salem, Oregon
