Vaccines and Parasite Prevention
Vaccinations
All of our puppies leave our care with their age-appropriate vaccinations up to date. Each family will also receive a vaccine health record to keep and take to their veterinarian.
We use Nobivac Canine DAP, which protects against:
-
Canine Distemper
-
Parvovirus
The first dose is given at 8 weeks of age or older. If your puppy remains with us long enough to be due for the next vaccine, they will then receive a DA2PP, which provides broader protection against:
-
Distemper
-
Adenovirus Type 1 (Hepatitis)
-
Adenovirus Type 2 (Respiratory Disease)
-
Parainfluenza (Types 1 & 2)
-
Parvovirus
This is typically a three-shot series, followed by a recommended booster at 16 weeks and then annually thereafter.
The number of doses your puppy receives before leaving will vary depending on how long your puppy remains in our care at Salem’s Finest Chihuahuas.

Additional Protection: Kennel Cough
In addition to core vaccines, our puppies also leave our care protected against kennel cough (Bordetella bronchiseptica). We use Nobivac Canine Intra-Trac Oral Bb, which contains an avirulent live culture to safely stimulate the immune system and help puppies build lasting protection against this common respiratory illness.

Parasite Prevention
All of our puppies receive regular parasite prevention (“deworming”) while in our care. This ensures they leave us healthy and protected.
-
Schedule: Puppies are treated at 2, 4, 6, 8, and sometimes 10 weeks of age (depending on how long they remain with us).
-
Medication: We use Nemex-2 (Pyrantel Pamoate), which removes large roundworms and hookworms and helps prevent reinfestation.
-
Additional treatment: At 7 weeks of age, puppies also receive Panacur for three consecutive days as an added safeguard before going home.
-
Mothers: Lactating females are also treated for parasite prevention about 2–3 weeks after whelping their puppies.
This careful protocol helps give your new puppy the healthiest possible start in life.
