Rhaenyra is a special young adult who is ready to retire from our program and find a home where she can truly thrive as a cherished companion.

She enjoys the company of other Chihuahuas and would do best in a home where she has canine companionship. You’ll often find her sunbathing, exploring the yard, or digging for worms, enjoying the simple things in life. She also loves toys, chewies, and water play, and is eager to please her special person.

Rhaenyra is very much a one-person type of dog. She tends to bond more quickly with women, though she does not have issues with the men in our home. She may take some time to settle into a new environment, but once she feels safe, she becomes an incredibly affectionate and devoted companion. She seeks out attention, loves joining you on the couch or in bed, and gives endless kisses.

She has an adorable, playful side as well—she loves to do her “begging” pose and is very treat motivated, which will be helpful as she continues to build confidence and learn in her new home.

Rhaenyra can be easily spooked, so her new family will need to be mindful of her sensitive nature and allow her to acclimate at her own pace. A calm, patient home will help her feel secure and truly blossom.

She can absolutely have her name changed—her current name was inspired by one of our favorite shows, House of the Dragon.

Health & Placement Information

Rhaenyra was born here at Salem’s Finest Chihuahuas and was originally intended to be part of our breeding program. Unfortunately, she did not pass all of the health testing required to continue in that role. In order to uphold the integrity of our program, we have chosen to place her in a companion home, and she will be required to be spayed.

She has:

• Passed her eye and cardiac evaluations

• Not passed her patella evaluation (both patellas are luxating)

At this time, we cannot determine whether corrective surgery will ever be necessary. That decision would need to be made in consultation with a veterinary orthopedic specialist, and we strongly recommend obtaining a second opinion before pursuing any surgical intervention.

Luxating patellas are very common in the Chihuahua breed. Many dogs live comfortably without surgery, while others may require treatment later in life. Because outcomes can vary, Rhaenyra is being placed as-is, with full disclosure and no guarantee regarding her knees.

To support her joint health, we recommend:

• Maintaining a healthy weight

• Transitioning to a high-quality, veterinarian-recommended diet

Rhaenyra is:

• Up to date on all immunizations

• Microchipped

• Just over one year old

 

This includes:
✔️ Genetic health testing via Embark (clear of all breed-relevant conditions)
– Patellas: Bilaterally Luxating
– Heart: Clear of murmur
– Eyes: Certified by an ophthalmologist

🐾 Rhaenyra's Personality & Training

Rhaenyra is a very sweet, gentle soul with a calm nature. She is:

• Pee pad trained

• Dog door trained

• Pen & crate trained

• NOT currently leash trained

Rhaenyra may be a little shy at first, but with time, patience, and understanding, she blossoms into a deeply loving, loyal companion. She has so much love to give and will form a very special bond with the right person.

If you’re looking for a devoted, affectionate Chihuahua and are prepared to meet her needs with compassion and realistic expectations, Rhaenyra has the potential to be an exceptional companion.

🏠 What She’s Looking For

Rhaenyra would thrive in a home:

• With other dogs (including larger breeds) 

• That may include cats

• We are unsure how she would do with small children

• Willing to be patient while she adjusts

• Food monitoring to help her lose weight and maintain a healthier lifestyle

• New owner is required to have her spayed within 120 days of adoption 

Potty Training Disclaimer:
While she is potty trained here, we cannot guarantee she will be in a new environment. Like all of our rehomed adults, we recommend being open-minded and ready to reintroduce her to a new routine.

To encourage them to remain side by side, Mastaciya’s adoption fee will be waived entirely when adopted with Rhaenyra.

• Application required and must be pre-approved

• Meet & greets available (scheduled Tuesday–Thursday during our puppy pickup dates only)

• Shipping available (at adopter’s expense; return shipping also your responsibility if rehoming doesn’t work out)

• Her name can be changed!

• Local or out of state home welcomed!
